I Am Poem. I AM POEM. I am caring and loving. I wonder if I am reaching any of my students. I hear my name being called one hundred times a day. I want my students to stay away from drugs and gangs. I pretend that I can make a difference. I feel sad that they won’t all make it.

I AM POEM I am caring and loving. I wonder if I am reaching any of my students. I hear my name being called one hundred times a day. I want my students to stay away from drugs and gangs. I pretend that I can make a difference. I feel sad that they won’t all make it. I touch the sky with my imagination. I worry that some of my students will turn to drugs. I cry when I get frustrated. I am caring and loving. I understand that you can’t save everyone. I say that you can be anything you choose to be. I dream that I will reach them all. I try to be thankful and happy everyday. I hope that I will be lucky in my life. I am caring and loving. Brooke Cohen

Myself in Metaphors Joseph O. Legaspi If each stand of my hair was a star, my head is its own galaxy. My face is the globe where I live. My forehead is an open field, Where the furry animals of my eyebrows graze. My eyes are luminous bodies of water, reflecting the sun. My nose is like Mount Everest; I imagine climbing its peak, Building a fire on cold nights in the caverns of my nostrils. I admire the canyons of my ears, the slopes of my chin, my cheeks’ sands and tiny craters. I am stardust. I am my world, and of the world.
Myself in Metaphors • List ten physical or mental traits about yourself. • Compare each item on that list to something important in your life or that you love. • Make sure that the comparison is threaded all the way through the poem. • Using a sheet of paper to write the poem and illustrate it.

“If I Were In Charge of the World”by Judith Viorst If I were in charge of the worldI'd cancel oatmeal,Monday mornings,Allergy shots, and also Sara Steinberg. If I were in charge of the worldThere'd be brighter nights lights,Healthier hamsters, andBasketball baskets forty eight inches lower. If I were in charge of the worldYou wouldn't have lonely. You wouldn't have clean. You wouldn't have bedtimes.Or "Don't punch your sister."You wouldn't even have sisters. If I were in charge of the worldA chocolate sundae with whipped cream and nuts would be a vegetableAll 007 movies would be G,And a person who sometimes forgot to brush, And sometimes forgot to flush,Would still be allowed to be In charge of the world.
