Project Background • Tom interned at Integrated Medical Care in the Summer of 2012. • His job was to locate inactive patient’s files which were stored throughout hundreds of boxes by using trial and error. • It was possible for it to take multiple hours to find one patient’s file because weren’t organized.
Business Problem • All inactive patient’s files must be held for 7 years since their last visit • Patient’s inactive files were thrown into the boxes • To find the file, you had to search through each box. • Very time consuming and unorganized • Need a more organized way to locate patient’s files when they need medical information
Business Opportunity • Provide the company with a list of the most used insurance companies. • Sort which doctors can treat specific injuries, and show how busy they currently are. • Show the most common types of injuries treated, to help keep inventory up to date. • Get reports of when files can be discarded (after 7 years).
Business Value • The database will increase efficiency, and increase organization throughout the company. • This database will give IMC a way to locate files in a matter of minutes rather than hours.

Conclusion • This database gives the company a tool find which box a patient’s file is located in. • It also provides reports listing which patient is assigned to which doctor, and tells us which doctor handles specific injuries. • Integrated Medical Care should improve efficiency and decrease lag time when locating patient files.
