Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night Mrs. Glenn’s 2nd grade class Student Activities Page
Introduction • This week students, your reading comprehension as well as your reading strategies will be put to the text. • This activity will be completed alone (unless otherwise directed), so I will not be able to add any assistance. • Each session will only last for 50 minutes so use your time wisely.
Instructions for Monday • Look next to the computer and get Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night. Flip through the pages and look only at the pictures. Open Microsoft Word and type what you predict the book to be about. • Read the story to yourself. As you are reading, stop every few pages and answer questions about what happened on those pages. Those questions can be found in your class notebook. • If you are unsure what the answer is, maybe you need to go back and reread. Be sure to pay attention to the story because you will be creating your own questions later this week. • Once you have completed these steps and you are sure that you have a good understanding of what you have read, print your work, place it in your notebook, and you may return to your seat.
Instructions for Tuesday • Review the questionings from yesterday. When you read today, remember that asking questions while reading can help you to be a better reader and to understand what you are reading. • Pick up your copy of Henry and Mudge and the Starry Nightsitting next to the computer. • Read the story to yourself. Stop every few pages and think about how to ask a question about the story. At each stop, come up with at least three questions that are related to the story, and type them up in Microsoft Word. • When you have completed that, review the story and your work. • Print out your work, place it in your notebook and you may return to your seat.
Instructions for Wednesday • Look next to the computer and retrieve your copy of Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night. • Today you will be the teacher. Reread the story Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night with the person next to you. Take turns asking your partner a question about the story. • Be sure to read with feeling and make your sentences flow. • Once you have read the story once, reread it again but this time answer the questions that your partner created on the previous day. • Type up your answers on Microsoft Word, print them out and place them in your folder.
Instructions for Thursday • Today you will create a test with 15 questions based on previous questions and the questions from your neighbor. • Your questions must be in this format • 5 true or false • 5 multiple choice • 3 short answer • 2 essay • Set up your test using Microsoft PowerPoint. • Save your work with you and your partner’s name.
Instructions for Friday • Today you will take 2 test created by your classmates. • Your highest score will be your test score and the lowest score will count as extra credit.
