  2. Background • Distribution Switches: • Electrical devices required to safely isolate portions of the distribution system for maintenance, operation and system upgrades; • Allows PWP to minimize the number of customers affected when the power system is repaired or upgraded.

Background • Immediate replacement of defective switches and the purchase of new switches for customer projects is essential for Power Delivery operations • PWP uses a number of long-term contracts to provide just-in-time delivery of equipment in order to • minimize internal inventory levels • recognize volume discounts • manage costs

Bid Process • PWP issued Specifications LD-17-11 to furnish and deliver medium voltage distribution switches • Specifications advertised in the Pasadena Journal and available via PlanetBids on January 9, 2018 • 924 vendors received electronic notification • Including 39 local vendors • 32 vendors downloaded the Specification (two local)

  8. Bid Process • Two bids were received on February 7, 2018 from: • G & W Electric, Bolingbrook, IL • OneSource Distributors, Garden Grove, CA • No local vendors submitted bids • G&W Electric Company was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder

  9. Recommendation • Authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with G & W Electric • Initial period of three years or until $14,644,110 has been expended • Two optional one-year extensions, each not-to-exceed $4,881,370

  10. Fiscal Impact • The maximum cost of this action is $24,406,850 if the two optional one-year extensions are exercised • Funding from existing appropriations • Power Operating Fund 401 • Inventory Account (120500)
