Exercise 1 BEFORE YOU WATCH Do you have your own website? What do you use it for? If you don’t have one, would you like to have it one day? Why/why not? If you started a business, what would it be? As a whole group, brainstorm ideas. How would you let your potential customers know about your products or services? Discuss. If you would develop and run a business, how would you go about it? Do you think it‘s possible to run a business without a logo, a website or branding? Do you think all enterprises need to follow a certain business model and plan? Explain your opinions.

Exercise 5 TEAMWORK AND ROLE PLAY • Work in small groups. Imagine you are work for an advertising agency. Your client is a bicycle manufacturer intending to change their company slogan to attract a new customer base from those interested in road races to surburban bicycle users. The slogan is supposed to have between 5 to 10 words. The client wants you to create three versions of the slogan and will finally choose only one. • Prepare the slogans and how you will present them to the client explaining the ideas behind them. Compare your results with the other groups. As a whole group, select the best slogan.
Exercise 5 TEAMWORK AND ROLE PLAY • In your small groups, put the best slogan into use by developing a mock advertising campaign. Who are your target audiences? What are their style preferences and income possibilities for spending on a bicycle? What kinds of new bicycle lines would you recommend developing according to the preferences of your new markets? What organizations and ngo’s could you collaborate with? How would you launch the campaign? Develop a plan and role play presenting it to the client. Present it to the others. • What ideas are the most feasible? What compromises may be necessary? What creative solutions could you find to overcome some anticipated financial obstacles to your campaign ideas being successful?
Exercise 5 FOLLOW-UP • Follow the suggestions of the speaker and research what kind of CRM system you could suggest to the client to use with your slogan and advertising campaign in order to attract and manage a new customer base. • Create a spreadsheet with the financial costs for the whole campaign from slogan to product, to attracting a new customer base. What would it cost the client to implement your ideas in actual practice by today’s marketing costs and standards? • Discuss how marketers, clients, and companies make decisions about ideas, production, costs, and customer management from the creative stage to the implementation stage.
