Applying for a Job • Submit a complete application file (next slide) • Compose an Original cover letter • Recommendations are HUGE • Don’t inflate your GPA on your resume or application • If you call…don’t be pushy • Learn about the school you’re applying to • Don’t concentrate on one location

What to Include…Cont’d • Copy of PA Teaching Certificate (praxis scores for recent/upcoming grads) are not sufficient; you must include a copy of your actual certificate or a print screen from the State of PA website indicating that your certificate has been approved www.tcs.ed.state.pa.us/CertApp.asp ) or a letter from your University confirming completion of course work • Candidates who will be completing a teacher certification program by the end of the semester may submit partial applications. Upon completion of the program, applicants must submit the remaining documents as soon as possible.

Interview ProcessPre-interview • Make sure your voice messages on both home phone and cell phone are appropriate. • Research the school district prior to interview (Web-site, ask for materials to be sent to you, etc.,) • Review your resume
Actual Interview • Dress appropriately- First impressions are important • When meeting the interviewer, pay attention – Listen for the name and title. • Give a firm, but not bone-crushing handshake along with good eye-contact. • Wait until you are directed to sit down. • Sit erect with hands folded in your lap or holding your portfolio. • Do not chew gum. • Never use profanity • Always be 100% honest
