Are You Organized?Use Your Tasks & Timeline Sheet to put items in order! • 2 – 3 printed, annotated research articles • Gathering Research notes (front/back for 2 printed research articles) • MLK “Letter to …” sheets • 2 Prewriting sheets (audience, full thesis, etc.) • 4 models (Security Cameras, Buckle Up, Derek’s letter, Millie’s letter) • Introductory Paragraph (w/Formatting information on back)

Hook, Housekeeping & Homework Tuesday Have out your Introductory Paragraph. • Swap it with another student (ONLY if both of you wrote the complete paragraph!) • Read the two models below. • Compare your partner’s Introductory Paragraph to these two: • Does he/she have a hook? • Does he/she have a sentence or two of background information and/or narrow to a specific topic? • Does he/she end in a thesis statement? • Give your partner positive feedback and an idea to consider for improvement. PPT Examples 3 & 4: Introductory Paragraphs An adult work day is eight hours. The work day for a high school student, especially a serious student, often exceeds that by two or more hours. Why should a 14- to 17- year old have a heavier workload and work expectations than working adults? As a dedicated high school sophomore, I would argue that high school students at Make This Up High School are given far too much homework. Reading a book to a blind person, feeding a debilitated patient in a nursing home, and tutoring a child are all examples of community service projects. Such projects not only help others, they also help build feelings of self-worth and gratification in the volunteer. In fact, volunteering is an important part of life and growing up.   8. Activities: Develop & ApplyI Do – We Do Tuesday Purpose:to identify basic parts of body paragraphs in order to write your own. Tasks: After seeing the model (body 1 & 2, not 2&3), • read through your assigned body paragraphs, • respond to questions 1-6, • annotate your text. • Be prepared to share. Outcome: ideas for how to proceed with your own body paragraphs. Standard 3 Writing and Composition Objective: you will be able to identify basic parts of body paragraphs in order to write your own. YOU DO TASK: Write your body paragraphs (2-4)

Please Be Considerate of Others • If you are going into the “Absent?” file drawer and going through the file folders, put all handouts back in the appropriate folder and all file folders in the appropriate order. • If you randomly place handouts and folders in the drawer it makes it more difficult and time consuming for the next person to find the correct handouts.

Period 4 Have out your “stack of stuff” • 2 – 3 annotated articles (with Gathering Information sheets) • 2 completed pre-writing sheets • 4 – 8 sentence introductory paragraph (formatting on back) • 2 – 4 body paragraphs • 4 – 8 sentence conclusion (Editing, Revising, Proofreading on back) • Works Cited Page • Come grab a final Checklist sheet from the front desk We only have the 15 portable computers to share for the first 70 minutes of class. Those without computers at home or who are done handwriting all paragraphs or need final research have “first dibs.”

This is the final day that the essay/letter with Works Cited will be accepted. All Summativesmust be turned in in order to earn English 3 credit!

(Monday) • Finals Week In-class • Create a persuasive “ad/flyer” (essay/letter topic, choice novel, surprise topic!) that includes a claim, an appeal to ethos, pathos, logos, kairos, and images, graphics, colors to further influence the audience! • Present this to the class on the day of your final in a 1-2 minute persuasive speech 
