VOS Website – The Future • To remain effective & attract repeat visits, the website needs to regularly change content or add new content. • Open to suggestion for change and or improvements. • Links to other national VOS/PMO websites. • If ASAP becomes a Task Team of the VOSP, perhaps add ASAP as a Special Project alongside VOSClim.

  11. E-mail Mailing Lists All mailing list require registration with JCOMMOPS.

  12. Certificate of Appreciation • Initiative of the SOT Task Team on VOS Recruitment and Programme Promotion, and approved at SOT-III. • Download as a compressed (ZIP) file from the VOS website: • Blank PDF document; • Template document; • Instructions and criteria; • Example certificate; and • Fonts.

  13. Criteria for Issue • The SOT Certificate of Appreciation can be presented to any ship recruited by an agency to participate in the VOS, VOSClim, SOOP or ASAP. • A ship can have multiple Certificates of Appreciation if it participates in distinct programs for different agencies e.g. VOS for GB & SOOP for AU.

  14. Criteria for Issue • The Certificate of Appreciation is independent of any national award scheme. • The Certificate of Appreciation is independent of any program-based Certificate of Participation, e.g. VOSClim. • The Certificate of Appreciation remains the property of the ship even after de-recruitment from the program for which it was issued, unlike a Certificate of Participation.

  15. Recruitment Presentation • Initiative of Steve Cook, Chair of SOOPIP & retired US XBT Program Manager, and approved at SOT-III. • Targeted at ships’ owners and shipping companies. • Extols the importance of ship-based observations for operational use and research. • Download from the VOS website.

  16. SOT Flyer • Initiative of the SOT Task Team on VOS Recruitment and Programme Promotion, and approved at SOT-III. • Single page pamphlet to encourage participation in the SOT observing programmes. • Download from the VOS website (not yet available).

  17. SOT Newsletter • Medium to long-term goal of the SOT Task Team on VOS Recruitment and Programme Promotion, as a result of the demise of the Marine Observer (UKMO). • Major hurdle is finding an editor with the time to commit to the responsibility – looking for volunteers! • Desire to establish a pool of ‘newsworthy articles’ for the use by any agency producing its own newsletter.
