Macromolecules Small cells built from the largest molecules-- the macromolecules. Most of these macromolecules are built by assembling smaller molecules (like sugars for example) into long chains. There are four types of macromolecules: Carbohydrates-a large group of compounds (such as sugars and straches) which contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Lipids-a class of compounds that are fatty acids are insoluble in water.. Proteins-large biological molecules consisting of one or more chains of amino acids. Nucleic Acids-large biological molecules essential for all known forms of life.
MacromoleculesIndicators Benedict’s solution-finds simple carbohydrates. The negative test result color is blue an the positive result is orange when heated. Iodine solution-finds complex carbohydrates. The negative test result color is brown and the positive result is black. Biuret solution-finds protein. The negative test result color is blue and the positive result is purple. Sudan IV-finds lipids- The negative test result is red and the positive result is dark red. Brown Paper test-finds lipids. The negative test results is brown and the positive is dark brown.
