Social Media Addendum – Policy Overview • Contact MPA before beginning your social media initiative • You must have a primary assigned site administrator responsible for content who is an employee of the university • Your page/account name, audience(s) and contact info for your primary site administrator must be on file the SOM’s communications offices • Site/page must adhere to university’s branding guidelines (use of name, logos, other policies)

  8. Social Media Addendum – Policy Overview • Site/page must contain links to HIPAA Notice of Privacy and WUSM Disclaimer language • Shared primary site administrative responsibilities • With hospital partners • With individual patients, families, donors or students

Clinical Trial Recruitment • Use of social media platforms for clinical trial recruitment must be reviewed by the WUSM Institutional Review Board (IRB). • Proposals submitted to the WUSM IRB by the PI during the normal protocol submission process • Volunteer for Health / Research Participant Registry is already engaging potential trial participants on Facebook. What’s on our radar … • Doximity • The “Facebook for Doctors” • FPP Operations and Privacy / Security Office are currently looking into the security aspects of this for us • Use of social media platforms for clinical trial recruitment must be reviewed by the WUSM Institutional Review Board (IRB). Proposals for use of social media platforms for this purpose should be submitted to the WUSM IRB by the principal investigator during the normal protocol submission process.

Next Steps … • Social media organizational workgroup with communications professionals from the SOM/FPP and affiliated hospitals/orgs • WU site administrators social media meetings • Goal = bring together communications managers and site administrators to learn and share ideas • March Kick off - TBD
