  7. State Suicide Prevention Plans • Some are directed by the legislature, others are not • Most outline several GOALS and corresponding OBJECTIVES that detail how those goals will be met • Some are updated regularly, others are not • Some are being worked on actively, others are not

Example • AWARENESS Goal 1: Promote awareness that suicide is a public health problem and that many suicides are preventable Objective 1.1: Develop/implement public information campaigns Objective 1.2: Establish/host regularly scheduled suicide prevention conferences Objective 1.3: Increase the number of state institutions active in suicide prevention Goal 2: Develop broad-based support Goal 3: Develop/implement strategies to reduce stigma associated with being a consumer of MH, SA, and SP services
