  2. “Go, inquire of the Lord for me and the people and all Judah concerning the words of this book that has been found, for great is the wrath of the Lord that burns against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.” Situational Analysis... Not Good... Verse 13

  3. v.4 Idols to Baal, Asherah and Zodiac • v. 5 Politically appointed Pagan priests • v.6 Asherah Pole in the temple • v. 7 male cult prostitutes in temple • v. 8 unfaithful priests • V 10. child sacrifice to Molech • v. 11 Sun God horse/chariot worship • v. 12 emperor/king worship • v. 13 false goddess/god worship from neighbouring society How bad was it?... 2 kings 23

  4. The standard was ignored/ lost • Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord.” • (2 Kings 22:8) How could this Happen?

  5. Decisions were made without God • our fathers have not listened to the words of this book • (2 Kings 22:13) How could this Happen?

  6. Political choices replaced God • The altars which ...the kings of Judah had made. The high places ... which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the sons of Ammon (2 Kings 23:12- 13) How could this Happen?

  7. A personal heart wrenching realization • When the king heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes. • (2 Kings 22:11) How did revival begin

  8. An yearning to hear from God • “Go, inquire of the Lord for me and the people and all Judah concerning the words of this book that has been found (2 Kings 22:13) How did revival begin

  9. A public profession before God’s people • The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, (2 Kings 23:3) How did revival begin

  10. Action - a reprioritizing, • making things right • ... and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book.(2 Kings 23:3) How did revival begin

  11.  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;  for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.  But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.James 1:23-25
