Who was Karl Marx? • Born 1818 in Germany. • After college, Marx hoped to pursue an academic career but got too heavily involved with a radical group of thinkers and had no prospect toward a job besides philosophy. • Marx was forced to turn to journalism and studied the order of social class and political issues.
What is Marxism? • Marxism is defined as the theories of Karl Marx; later serving the basis for communism. • The main point to take from this is the struggle between classes (I.e., education, wealth,etc…).
Who were the Marxists? • Although there were many Marxists, in reality, three came to power: • Karl Marx – the founder • Leon Trotsky – helped lead a rebellion to overthrow Stalin • Vladimir Lenin – helped create the Bolshevik party
