Focus, Blur, Filter Gallery • Retrieve virtualmedia.zip from Parsons/Outbox. • Open ParsonFocus.psd. • It is possible to stack Smart Filters. • But they share a common Layer mask. • This image required copying figures to be sharpened to another layer so that Smart Sharpening could apply with one mask, Gaussian Blur of background with another. • Note Filter Gallery layer.
Creating a Brush tip • Open cornfieldtree.JPG. • Zoom in to tree and use Polygonal lasso Tool, Select -> Color Select and other tools to select reddish tree. • Edit -> define Brush Preset to make it a brush. • Create a new normal layer. • Select Brush, Air Brush, paint with this brush.
Highlighting Aspects of a PhotoLines versus Color • Open PrayingMantis.psd. Enable filter layers one at a time. • Gaussian Blur with 50% opacity softens focus. • Glowing Edges blended as Overlay with reduced opacity contrasts texture from the layer-masked mantis. • Walk through other layers on this image.
Line Drawings • Open cschallway.psd. • Enable Glowing Edges Filter – Edges get the highlights. • Invert to get dark lines and light areas. • Black & White with reduced opacity diminishes color without removing it. • Brightness / Contrast Adjustment Layer brings texture back to over-brightened areas.
Water Color • Open purpleflowers. • The Smart Filter Layer has the following components. • Filter -> Noise Median obscures details. • Poster Edges highlights boundaries, creates color contours via posterization. • Unsharp mask makes boundaries more discrete.
Painting with a Pattern Stamp • Copy and Edit -> Define Pattern out of the entire image background. • Paint on an all-white layer or all-black layer using Pattern Stamp. • Set brush size and pattern, hardness, opacity and flow to get desired effect. • Adjust and re-paint in stages. • Add adjustment layers as needed.
