  5. Repetitive Dreams: • [Genesis 41:1-7]…Pharaoh had recurring dreams about impending doom and destruction. • [Daniel 2:1]...Similar to above where the king had a series of repetitive dreams about destruction.

  6. Nightmares: • [Job 7:14, 33:14-18]…Here Job complains of the dreams that God terrifies him with. • [Daniel 4:5]…King Nebuchadnezzar has recurring nightmares that terrified him. • [Matthew 27:19]….Pilates wife has a nightmare that warned against harming Jesus.

  8. [Acts 2:17] …”And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.

  9. [Genesis 40:5] …”Then the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, had a dream, both of them, each man’s dream in one night and each man’s dream with its own interpretation.”

  10. [Daniel 2:1]…“Now in the second year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign…Nebuchadnezzar had dreams…and his spirit was so troubled…that his sleep left him.”

  11. ”dream dreams”…actually means…”dream frequently and continually!”

  12. Dreams Have At Least 3 Purposes: • 1. Our minds…simply ….‘sorting’ through the events of our lives. • 2. Our ‘spirits’…or subconscious…trying to resolve conflicts within our lives. • 3. God intervening…and speaking into our lives.

  13. Dream Interpretation:

  14. 1. Recurring Dreams…and Nightmares: …or dreams that we remember…with clarity…once we are awake. • 2. God Intervening…and Speaking Into Our Lives:

  15. [Matthew 13:10-16]… 10 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

  16. 14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; 15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them. 16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear….”

  17. [Job 12:22]… “He uncovers deep things out of darkness, And brings the shadow of death to light.”

  18. [1 Corinthians 4:5]…” Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God.”

  19. Christian Dream Log: • For current and past dreams… • Date: • Title I would give to the dream (Do this last): • Content of the dream: • Feelings/emotions – both within the dream, and as I remember the dream: • What were my roles in the dream? Was I an observer, a main part, a victim, hero, etc:

  20. What are some of the symbols in my dream i.e. swimming, water, flying, running, trees, colours, people, weapons, objects, hats, animals, books, furniture, houses, pets, monsters, fog, rain, sunshine, etc: • What links might this dream – or the objects in it, have with reality, what are some similar feelings, emotions, roles or symbols that relate to my life at the moment, or from my past:

  21. Now, take just a few minutes and pray: • Ask God to speak to you, ask Him what He wants you to do with the interpretation of this dream.

  22. What action might He want you to take? • Is there forgiveness needed? • Reconciliation? • Repentance? • Does He want you to take some positive action – at home, work, church or in the community? • Perhaps God just wanted you to identify a hidden or suppressed emotion or attitude? • Write it down once you have prayed, or even as you are praying!

  23. Content Of The Dream: • I dreamt I was at the beach with my family. • It was a sunny day, and we all went for a swim. Suddenly the weather turned ugly, a storm came and the waves grew larger. • Before I knew it, I was alone in the middle of the ocean, I was drowning, I couldn’t swim. • I tried to yell but nothing could come out of my mouth. I woke up in a cold sweat!

  24. FEELINGS / EMOTIONS: • At first I felt happy, contented, and enjoyed being with my wife and family. • Then things turned dark. Turmoil began to grow. Things got scary. • I began to feel ’swamped’ and trapped. • I felt fear, felt like I was losing control of my surroundings, felt afraid and drowning. • I was scared and out of control. • I felt a great sense of loss, especially like I had lost my family, the people I love the most in the whole world! • I felt a deep frustration at myself for not being able to survive.

  25. ROLES IN THE DREAM: • At first I was a father and a husband, a good one, playing with my family. • I felt like I was a provider, in control. I was a protector to them. • Then I felt like a victim, like a looser. • As if I was in the same place, the beach, but things changed, and I was now a victim. • I felt like I was ’in over my head’!

  26. SYMBOLS AND OBJECTS WITHIN THE DREAM: • My family, • the sun and beach, • water, rain, darkness, sand.

  27. LINKS WITH REALITY - EMOTIONS I FELT IN THE DREAM THAT I FEEL IN REAL LIFE. • I love to be with my family, to play with them. • These feelings were the same in my dream as they are in real life. • However, I’ve been so busy lately, that I haven’t spent much time with them at all, • having to work overtime, such long hours, and I’m under so much pressure at work!

  28. Actually, the feelings I felt in my dream when I was drowning, • are the same ones I feel when I’m having to work late at night at the office, • and I know I haven’t seen my children for over a week. I feel like my work has got out of control. I’m ’out over my head’ and drowning, I’ve lost control! • I remember when I was a young boy, my dad worked long hours too, it made me sad. • I still hurt about this today.

  29. PRAY AND SEEK GOD’S FACE: • Wow - I feel God is telling me to slow down, • that I am sacrificing my relationship with my children • because I work too much and too long hours. • I think I need to talk to someone about the pain I still feel • from my own dad working such long hours and neglecting me.

  30. I think there might be a vicious cycle at work that needs breaking. • I wonder if there is some bitterness in my own heart against my dad. • I don’t want my children to turn out like me and be a workaholic. • Lord, help me and show me the way to healing!
