BellworkJournal Monday/Tuesday • On a piece of paper… • Who is someone you look up to, respect, or admire? Why? • Explain in a paragraph. 5 minutes. • Living, preferably, and NOT a celebrity. • Turn & Talk • Draw a line underneath your Bellwork Journal.
** STATIONS ** Rotate every 20 min. You will move seats so take your stuff with you! Monday/Tuesday Block Schedule • Station One SCAVENGER HUNT Sit at the Group Tables. Seats 18-25 begin here. Number your paper 1-10 skipping lines. Find a green notecard in the classroom and follow the directions on it. • Station Two NOTECARDS Sit in Front-Middle seats. Seats 9-17 begin here. Follow the directions/example on the board. • Station Three GET ORGANIZED. Sit in first two rows by me. Seats 1-8 begin here. Get a paper from the STATION THREE folder at the front of the room. Directions are on here. *RR Break after ONE station is completed*

Goals for today • Assigned Seats and where to keep Bookbag, English Binder, and WNB. • Continue practicing how STATIONS work in this class. • Set up and understand WNB. • Begin organizing Binder for this class. • Successful login to laptop and Office 365. • Know how to get to teacher web sites. • Know your Waffle and One Drive.
HousekeepingPrepare Writer’s Notebook • You will need your supplies (which was homework) for this class. • Have your One-Subject Composition Notebook out and ready. If you do not have one, grab one from the STUDENT CLOSET at the back of the room. • The last student in each row will get onepermanent marker. • Each student will write WNB on the FRONT of the composition notebook. This stands for “Writer’s Notebook.” Pass the marker up to the next person to write this. • Each person will now also write his or her FIRST AND LAST NAME and PERIOD on the FRONT of the Writer’s Notebook. Pass the marker backwards to the next person in your row. • Find the MIDDLE PAGE of your WNB. Fold it in half (once or twice). This will divide the two parts of your WNB.

Station OneOrganize Binders • Organize a 3-Ring Binder (minimum 1”) with the following directions and supplies: • Loose-leaf paper. • Clear protective sheets • First and Last Name on Front or side. • Tab-Dividers are optional. • AVID Students will follow the directions for their AVID class.
Station twoLaptops • Show me that you can: • Log on to a student computer. • Go to your teacher web sites. • Access Office 365. • Know what a “waffle” is and where your “ONE DRIVE” is. • Know how to log in to Skyward.
Station 3WNB & Birthdays • See me. • Let’s set up your Writer’s Notebook (WNB). • Fold the paper in the middle of your notebook in half. • Label the front section “Bellwork M.C. Questions,” and the second section as “Journals.” • Write about last year’s experience in the Journal section of your WNB. Title and date the prompt. 1+ paragraphs.
Wrap it up! • CLEAN UP! Put everything away (your stuff and my stuff). • SIT. Get in a seat and look up at me. • LISTEN. Once I begin talking, please listen. • Did we meet the GOALS for today? • Questions, issues, heartaches, troubles, or fears?

Station OneGroup Discussion • Brainstorm aloud with your group, but also write on your own paper: • If you had a time machine and one chance to talk to your senior (12th grade) self, what would you ask? (write as many questions as you can in 3 minutes) • What hopes, wishes, or goals do you have for your senior self? (3 minutes) • Fears or worries? (2 minutes) • What do you think may be different about the world when you’re a senior? (write and discuss till end).

Station tHREE (Is with me )Annotate • On a piece of paper in your Binder, Define ANNOTATE at the top. • Then write down the ANNOTATION KEY (on the back of this/next slide) that you can use in the future for annotations. • Keep this in the clear protective sheet in your 3-Ring Binder.
Annotation Key • Circle powerful words or phrases. • Underline words or phrases that you do no understand. • ?Raises a question. • ! Something that surprises you or is important. • Draw an arrow when you make a connection to text, ideas, or experiences. • EX When the author provides an example. • 1, 2, 3, … Numerate arguments, important ideas, or key details. • Write important thoughts in the margin.
