What is the Compact? • Formally launched in 2011 in response to the changing nature of the education landscape • A significant partnership involving schools, academies, early years providers and the Local Authority • Led by schools, on behalf of education providers in Somerset • The main body for consulting on, shaping and directing policies and service provision in relation to schools. The Compact is intended to be a vehicle for joint working to ensure access to high quality education for all children and young people in Somerset
Outline Governance Structure: Compact Executive Two representatives from the local authority, from SASH (secondary and middle), SAPHTO (primary), SAHSP (specialist and alternative provision), SGSG (governors) and Early Years The Executive and representatives are supported by Executive Officers, professional advisers and Governance and Business Officers. Health & Well-being Board, Somerset Children’s Trust and the SCC Scrutiny Committee Schools Forum Countywide and local associations, clusters, partnerships and networks Cross-Phase & Stakeholder Task & Finish Groups, Project Boards and other existing groups 3
Some examples of work so far…. 6 Funding sector specific Raising Achievement Plans, facilitating collaboration between schools and settings to improve outcomes and close gaps Commissioning an Arts Education Network, letting a three year contract with a local consortium, bringing arts expertise and opportunity to schools and early years providers across Somerset Re-commissioned PRU provision, creating provision in each of the four areas of the county, responsive to the needs of local schools as well as meeting statutory duties Sponsored the “Services for Schools” project, shaping core and traded services for the future Funding a core ICT service, providing a coherent platform for information and learning
