  1. Some Basics on Photos

  2. Photo Editing Software • Microsoft Photo Editor • HP Photo Smart • Picassa • iPhoto • Many, many, more. • Often comes with your computer, printer or camera. • Allows you to edit photos, print, them, share them via e-mail, publish them online for friends and family.

  3. File Types • Most common is JPG (called J-PEG) • Stands for  Joint Photographic Experts Group • TIF, PNG, GIF, also common but JPG is pretty much standard and preferred now. • Don’t confuse with MP3 (music files) or WMV. MP4 (video files) • If you receive a photo, song or video in an attachment you will see these letters called file extensions.

  4. An Easy Edit • Cropping – Selecting a certain section of the photo and getting rid of the rest.

  5. File Sizes • Standard sizes for resolutions -- Pixels( dpi) • 1024 x 768, 800 x 600, 640 x 480, or 320 x 240 • The smaller the size, the less space (KB) it takes up, but also the less resolution…Clarity of picture. • You may need to reduce the size of a photo before you e-mail it. 640 x 480 works pretty well. • Reducing the size before you send it as an attachment will ensure that the person you are sending it to does not get a really big photo with Whale Eyes
