Beginning preparation • Step 2: Click on the link below to access materials to help you begin preparing for the test. • If you are taking courses or attending training, take these materials with you so that you can take notes under the appropriate section. • Study Guide Materials
Preparation • Step 3: Collect study materials • You should organize your materials and set aside uninterrupted time to prepare. • Some materials you may want to gather are course textbooks and handouts from trainings. • Create a study schedule and study when you can. • Do not wait for large chunks of available time to study, take your materials with you and study even when you have only a short amount of time.
Study materials • Step 4: Read through the study guide material several times to familiarize yourself with the test content. • The study guide materials you printed are organized by Domain, Competency Statement, then Descriptive Statement.
Descriptive statements • Step 5: Read the descriptive statements under each competency. • Write out key phrases from each descriptive statement on the page titled Descriptive statements. This page should have numbers listed for you.
Key words • Step 6: As you are writing key phrases from the descriptive statements, create a list of key terms to study. • List these terms on the blank page provided after the descriptive statements.
Research and define key terms • Step 7: Define and review the terms you listed from each competency or descriptive statement. • You can do this by using your textbooks or handouts. • If you are attending classes, you can use the study guide materials to take notes.
Step 8: Once you have defined the key terms, continue to read over the material until you are very familiar with the content.
Step 9: List the questions you have that pertain to the content and key terms.
Practice test • Step 10: Complete the practice test contained in the test preparation manual. • After you score your exam, note the domains in which you scored the lowest.
Step 10: Sign up for a Special Education TExES Review session. • Bring your study guide materials, the preparation manual and any questions you have to the session.
