1. Week 5: 1May Do Children Work Better Alone or With Others? Well basically from my observations it really depended on the individual child. I could tell that most of the quiet children (those who never disrupted the class and always listened and followed instructions) enjoyed working independently and got more work done this way. Other children, who were usually loud, found it hard to work alone as they constantly just had the urge to talk. When asked to have their art lesson in silence, many found it hard despite the teacher explaining that it was a red light activity. Traffic Light Strategy: Red Light– Independent Activity No talking; Orange Light– Partner Activity Whispering; and Green Light– Group/ Whole Class Activity Allowed to Talk and Discuss with Others. This led me to ask about other general class rules. My teacher let me know that the three main rules were: Main Classroom Rules: Always show respect for your property, yourself, others and your teacher; 2. Always be truthful and honest; and 3. Keep it a clean and safe classroom. Basically I believe that some students work better in groups and some work better alone and it just depends on the individual child, and that the teacher needs to plan their lessons so that both types of children/learners can benefit. Today before lunch, the students participated in an Anzac Day Memorial Service. Each class had one representative to read a prayer in the service. In this way the whole school really was involved.
