This completely new system is designed and developed in NESDIS/STAR. Its main goals include: • Monitor instrument running healthy status • Analyze instrument performance • Assess instrument degradation rate • Adjust varying calibration coefficients (LUT) • The system makes two categories data as inputs which are VIIRS SDR OBC_IP files and the outputs of SD/SDSM processing module -- Agg_History files. The output includes the all kinds of plotting and analysis reports about the VIIRS telemetry parameters and instrument performance. • The system provides a very useful tool for NPP project managers, instrument vendor and data users for understanding the VIIRS SDR data quality. It also helps the calibration/validation experts to monitor the instrument response trending. • System high level design • Key telemetry temperatures (BB, RTA, cavity, HAM, FPA, Circuit) -21 parts • Counts (DN) and NEΔDN of observation of three onboard calibration Targets (SV/BB/SD) • SD/SDSM combination processing and Monitoring • TEB/RSB bands response (Gain) trend and degradation rate • Analysis of lunar observation through the space view port and S/C yaw maneuver for lunar calibration • Earth viewing observation of global stable targets (desert/snow) • This instrument monitoring system is keeping update since it was placed on website on No. 15, 2011. Daily granule aggregation and processing of OBC files is done first and generate Daily OBC aggregation file (HDF5, 40M) including average for the Telemetry data and OBC observation in one day. Effective data extraction of SD and SDSM observation is also extracted. • Solar Diffuser (SD) degradation using SD/SDSM processing modules in ADL • Half Angle Mirror (HAM) degradation analysis • Analysis of lunar observations through the space view port • Calibration and instrument performance evaluation after configuration change • Key telemetry points monitoring (Blackbody(BB), instrument, HAM, Focal Plane Assembly [FPA]) • Striping reduction study • HAM side correlated noise monitoring • Daily true color image Implementation and Processing outline Processing Framework of VIIRS instrument monitoring System Processing Framework of VIIRS EV data Monitoring SD/SDSM Processing Derivation of H parameters Derivation of F Factors • Demonstrations • Processing F factor and H factor trending • Instrument temperature and health/status trending Summary • Most of NPP/VIIRS telemetry and engineering parameters and derived physical parameters are being monitored at near real time and the instrument healthy status can be checked on NOAA/NESDIS/STAR ICVS web site. • Plots are be updated by the interval of six hours and global true color image daily. • VIIRS ICVS team is ongoing the improvement and upgrade of some parameters calculation and adding more derived parameters. • The consistency of this processing and calculation with VIIRS ADL SDR algorithm will be improved. • http://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/icvs/NPP/ipm_telemetry_npp_viirs.php
