This project aims to investigate major airway management complications in UK anesthesia, calculate serious complication rates, learn from adverse events, and identify themes. The census provides a snapshot of practice over a two-week period in 2008/2009, offering valuable data on interventions and outcomes. Organized by a multispecialty planning group, the project utilizes local reporters for data collection, case submission, and review. Findings are compared with national data for accuracy assessment. Insights include the prevalence of complications, number of interventions, and work patterns of anesthetists in the UK. The project aims to enhance patient safety by understanding and addressing airway management challenges.
