  2. In Oklahoma City, the number of Boomers (55+) doubles from 2010 to 2020.

Villages Are an Innovative Solution • Membershiporganizations to provide support and access to servicestoremain at home as long as possible. • These organizations are called “Villages,” with over 350 in operation or development across the United States • AARP calls this innovation the first grand social movement of the 21st century. In the next 25 years approximately 25 million citizens will be impacted.

In 2000 a few friends imagined a world where they could age and live actively at home Decided and worked for services to come to them Partnered with Harvard University and Home Care Raised funds; created a board Became 501c3 non profit Still going strong 15+ years REDEFINING AGING! The First Village

  6. Aging-In-Place Village • One call does it all • Volunteer first • Neighbors helping neighbors • Membership based; member driven; self governing • Does not duplicate services • Carefully chosen vendors; carefully chosen partners

An exploratory committee of eight interested business and civic representatives met monthly for one year Attended the National Village to Village conference and asked for a Village Mentor Held professionally conducted focus groups Held 7 preliminary meetings (Villages 101) with church and civic groups Made personal financial and time commitments How VillagesOKC Began

  9. VillagesOKC Hub and Spoke Model OUR VISION: Each Village in the metro OKC area working together with the support of the hub. Each Village self-governed by a local area council with representation on OKC hub board.

  11. Have a Governing Council Have Village Manager Have a Village Volunteer Coordinator Day-to-day operation of their Village Engages and manages volunteers Fundraises within their area Determines their menu of specific programs and services VillagesOKC Spokes

  12. In September 2017, VillagesOKC became a reality. VillagesOKC Hub Board: Danny Eischen, President Scott Schaefer, Vice President Norm Behymer, Vice President Lewis McClain, Secretary Brian Banks, Treasurer Judy Akins, Member Partners Daryl Osmus, Member Rick Martin, Bethany Law Toya Holden, Member Delilah Joiner, PhD, Marilyn Olson, Executive Director Southern Nazarene University VillagesOKC, Inc.

Task groups are working on: Services and Membership Finances/ Budget Administration Volunteers and Software Marketing and Communications Fundraising / Friend raising Elected Leaders: Dana Owens-Delong, PhD, President Marilyn Stark, RN, Vice President Steve Slatsky, Secretary Ken Eason, CPA, Treasurer VillagesOKC Northwest is in Formation

Membership fees set by the governing council Fees vary – about $60 month Membership fees cover about 60% of the cost Business donations/ grants and sponsorships cover 40% of operational costs Community benefits from the huge impact of volunteer hours (1 volunteer : 2 members) How Villages are Funded

Get a group of interested people together (25 is a good number) Call Marilyn Olson (405 808 9211) to schedule an information meeting VillagesOKC hub will be there to guide your team’s planning, provide a roadmap, and time-tested Villages process VillagesOKC hub will support your work with the goal of launching with about 100 members What about interest from other areas?

Hold gatherings monthly January, February, March and April at “Serve Coffee & Community” Further refine the programs Engage volunteers and enroll members Launch VillagesOKC Northwest in May 2018 with 100 members Invite visitors to VillagesOKC Northwest Solicit opportunities to present Village concept What is ahead?
