One Journey Nicaragua November 2012 Visit us at: Onejourney4him.com or email us at: onejourney4him@gmail.com A New Day in Nicaragua This month we have exciting hews to share with you! When the Lord asked to come to Nicaragua to live and work, he birthed in us a love for the country and her people and a vision so big only He could accomplish it. Part of that vision was that the work was not for us alone but whoever God would bring into relationship with us and together we would be a part of His plan for the nation of Nicaragua coming into the Kingdom. Initially God directed us as many of you know, to work with Globe Nicaragua. We have spent the majority of the last year working with them ministering in their orphanages to the children and establishing a preschool. We also ministered to many of the Nicaraguan staff through bible study, English classes and the simple display of His love in our relationships with them. Yet our passion continued to be for the entirety of the people of Nicaragua and we longed to effect more of those around us each day. During the summer months, we were able to spend more time in the surrounding community with teams conducting outreaches including youth and children services, praying for the sick, feeding the hungry and more. God’s grace drenched every event. We saw so much of who God is manifested. Continually, we have focused on Jesus, following Him every step of the way, every day. We began to sense change on the horizon. We spent more time with Him and sought counsel from our leadership. In the end, God clearly spoke and directed the next steps in our life and work with Him. This was confirmed over the last month as we saw God fling open doors of connection, opportunity and provision for the future. We are thrilled to tell you that God has directed us to focus our efforts in Nicaragua in more evangelical activities. With the support of our sending church, Hill Country Church, we will be forming a new work in Nicaragua. We are pleased to introduce you to the new us, One Journey Nicaragua. Beginning this month we will no longer work daily with Globe Nicaragua nor Globe International in Florida as God has opened up new relationships and opportunities that are specific to the evangelical work God has directed us to.However, we have been honored to work with these brothers and sisters in the Lord. They have sowed into us, taught us and blessed us in countless ways and we know that we are all working for the same goal: the advancement of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. In this moment God is revealing His plan for reaching the Nicaraguan people which we believe will be a model that can then be duplicated in many areas in Nicaragua. We know that it will focus on working from within communities in Nicaragua, reaching out to the residents thru activities as diverse as our King Himself; everything infused with His love, His presence and constantly declaring His goodness. We will be sharing many of the details of the work in the coming newsletters. In October while Jen was in the United States we received several prophetic words from the Lord declaring it is a new day in Nicaragua. And so we join with Him and declare: It is a New Day in Nicaragua! Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing. Ezekiel 47:12
Page 2 The Children in Action New Name and New Logo Perhaps you are wondering why we changed the name of the work and the logo? As God began to clarify the next steps, we began to reexamine everything including the name of the work and our logo seeking to be sure all was reflective of Him and the work here. When we made our first trip to Nicaragua in 2010, we were struck by its raw beauty and overwhelming poverty. We struggled for several days with new emotions and feelings while trying to discern what God was saying to us. In the midst of it all God asked me, Phil, a question. “Are you going to be a tree?” After wrestling with the question, I said “Yes,” and He spoke to me about His plan for us in Nicaragua through Ezekiel 47. The tree represents the tree in verse 12 which is consistently bearing fruit and is full of life. We believe God would have us bear fruit in every season and give out His life to all. The work here has always been about the entire family and God is always faithful to show the children how they can reach out to others. Recently, they participated in a drama, The Curse of the Mask, which is a great presentation of the gospel message at the church we attend in Managua. Abby helped backstage and with the audio while Nic and Grace performed. It was powerful word, full of the presence of the Lord. Team Nicaragua Meet LINKS USA The work in Nicaragua is a group effort. Page 3 Coffee and More Coffee In October, we shared with you a new endeavor that God brought to us. Coffee. This relationship is about us working with others to help restore the agricultural economy and ultimately help alleviate poverty in Nicaragua through Nicaraguans learning to support themselves. This is truly a God ordained relationship that the Lord begun to bring about over 2 years ago. Nicoya Coffee was begun based on a prophetic vision to “reinvigorate the agricultural economy of Nicaragua” and for the church to be at the center of this restoration. Nicoya Coffee helps Nicaraguans establish small family farms, providing capital, training and support to enable them to get their coffee and other produce to market. These families typically move from poverty to financial stability in 6-12 months. As we market the coffee through our relationships and the doors God opens for connection, we create a greater demand for the coffee as well as return revenue. The sale additionally supports our efforts to advance the Kingdom in Nicaragua. When Jen was in the US recently, we brought some coffee to see what folks thought about the it and how God might it to accomplish His purposes. We were truly astounded at the response. We had to reorder many times. There was great demand for the coffee. We continue to offer the coffee in a variety of ways. If you attend Hill Country Church, River Stone or Emmanuel Fellowship look for the coffee periodically in your church. You can also order by phone, contact Pam Rose @ 512-216-0854.
