ALBANIAN ASSOCIATION OF MUNICIPALITIES

Established in 1993, the AAM aims to protect municipal interests and foster democratization in Albania. It collaborates with governmental and non-governmental organizations to provide services and training to municipalities. ALBANIAN ASSOCIATION OF MUNICIPALITIES Established in October 12, 1993 (based on Law Nr 2362 of November 16, 1956) and reregistered in May 2004 according to the new law requests Request was made by a group of 10 Mayors At the beginning it was called “Association of Mayors” On September 2000, the General Assembly altered the name into the “Albanian Association of Municipalities”

  2. THE MISSION The mission of AAM is to protect the common interests of Albanian Municipalities, with the purpose to achieve and develop the real democratization and decentralization of local government according to the principles of the European Charter of Local Autonomy

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES To protect the common interests of Albanian Municipalities To establish direct relations with the Parliament and the Government for protection of the Local self government bodies interests To represent the Albanian Municipalities in relations with other organizations To make possible the discussion of common problems in associations forum aiming at finding practical solutions To facilitate the establishment of contacts between municipalities and their foreign partners To fulfil different services for the municipalities, to offer training and qualifications

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE GENERAL ASSEMBLY is the highest organ of the Association STEERING COMMITTEE leads the Association’s activity during the period between two General Assemblies THE CHAIRMANSHIP of the Association, according to the statute, is composed of the Chair of the Association and two Vice Chairs PERMANENT FORUMS (Committees) are composed of 15 representatives from Municipalities, which in the first meeting elect in an open voting their Chairman, who chairs the meeting of each forum THE EXECUTIVE STAFF (7 persons)

  5. RELATIONSHIP AND MEMBERSHIP Collaboration with Central Government. Close collaboration with Ministry of Local Government and Decentralization (now Ministry of Interior) and other Ministries Collaboration with NGO- Sector : Co-Plan; Partners Albania; Center of Human Development Promotion; “Hanns Seidel” Foundation; Institute of Effective Public Politics (IEPP); and so on ... Cooperation with similar national / international organizations: USAID, SOROS, WB, UNDP, CoE, OSCE, , GTZ, SIDA, Membership in national / international organizations : ENTO, NALAS, CLRAE, CEMR Networking NALAS
