  3. Objective • Discuss the benefits and barriers of intercontinental cooperation and find solutions to the barriers.

  4. Benefits • Sharing past experiences • Getting new experiences • Exchange ideas • Discovering cultural differences • Networking branches • Make friends

  5. Exchange of Ideas • See branches with different cultural background • Put reports on the web • Virtual communities(Region 8 Student Portal) • Increase competitive activities in Region 8 • „Sister student branches“

  6. Barriers • Communication • Travel expenses, travel time • Organization • Language, culture • Visa • Infrastructure

  7. Infrastructure • Internet not equally developed everywhere • No online conferencing • Very expensive / sometimes inaccessible • But still better than ordinary mail and phone calls • Essential for success of international meetings (eg. SBC 2004) • Recommendations: • Support from IEEE • Help from sister branches • Support from industry

  8. Conclusion • Student Portal must be developed! • Encouraging multi-national projects • Promotion of cooperation • Branches write reports on their activities
