Age • Non-Prior Service • 17-35 Years Old • Must have parental consent to enlist at 17 years of age • Must physically be in training prior to their 35th birthday • Applicants may start working with a Recruiter 30 days prior to 17th Birthday • Prior Service • Active Duty • Must be less than 35 years old after subtracting Prior Active Duty Service from their actual current age • Must be able to complete 20 years of service prior to age 62 • Reserve • Must be able to qualify for retired pay by age 60
Citizenship • Citizen of the United States • Born in the United States • Born abroad to US parents • Alien who has been lawfully admitted for residence • Must possess an I-551 Card (Green Card) • National of the United States • Citizen of the following: • Federated States of Micronesia • Palua • Republic of the Marshall Islands
Education • High School Junior or Senior • Education status must be verified, RESTRICTIONS MAY APPLY • High School Juniors may only apply for the Army Reserves • High School Diploma Graduate or Higher • Must possess a Diploma or Official Transcripts • General Equivalency Diploma (GED) • RESTRICTIONS MAY APPLY • 15 Semester Hours of College • Must be 100 level or higher courses (some exceptions may apply) • 22 Quarter Hours or 675 Clock Hours are also acceptable
Education • Job Corps • Must possess GED, Trade Certificate and have 675 clock hours • Home School • Must possess Diploma and Transcripts • Currently Enrolled in College • Minimum 15 semester hours of 100 level courses, must be enrolled AND attending. Online courses are not allowed.
Dependants • Single with no dependants • Single without custody of dependants • Married with no more than three dependants (spouse included) • Single and pays child support for two or fewer children • Exceptions may be made under certain conditions for applicants who do not meet the above criteria
Moral / Legal • Background Screening conducted on all applicants • All violations are considered to include juvenile • Other Adverse Disposition Definition • Cannot have a Felony offense conviction • Cannot have a Drug related conviction • This includes possession of paraphernalia • Cannot have a Lautenberg conviction • Cannot have any pending charges or court actions
Moral / Legal • Applicants entire record will be reviewed to determine if they are eligible for enlistment • Determination is made based on the number, type, and disposition of the violations • Exceptions to Army policy may be granted in individual cases • Under no circumstances may a Recruiting Officer assist or intervene on an applicants behalf
Testing • Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery • Test is normed to the general population • Test is scored from 0-99 and is a percentage based score • Required Scores (Subject to Change or Restrictions) • High School Diploma or Higher – 31+ • High School Junior or Senior – 31+ • General Equivalency Diploma – 50+ • Testing Locations • High School • Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) • Mobile Examination Site
Physical • Must complete a Physical Examination at the MEPS • Physical in similar to a school physical • Includes a hearing test, eye exam, range of motion evaluation • All prior medical conditions must be disclosed • Exceptions made for certain pre-existing conditions • Cannot currently be under a doctors care or taking medications • Some exceptions may apply • Must pass a drug test • Body Modifications can disqualify someone from the Army

Current Enlistment Incentives Active Duty • Deferred Ship Bonus • High School Seniors - $100 per month in the Future Soldier Program • Maximum $1400 • Seasonal Bonuses • Up to $10,000 • Dependent upon job and start of training date • Hi-Grad Bonus • Up to $2,000 • Dependent upon number of semester hours of college completed • Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program Bonus • $5,000
Current Enlistment Incentives Active Duty • Ranger Bonus • $5,000 • Must complete Ranger Training and accept assignment to a Ranger unit • Airborne Bonus • $1,000 • Must complete Airborne Training • Enlistment Bonus • Maximum of $40,000 • Dependant on job enlisted for, and length of initial contract • Loan Repayment Program • Maximum benefit of $65,000 • Dependant on job enlisted for, and length of initial contract
Current Enlistment Incentives Active Duty • Army College Fund • Maximum Benefit of $83,448 • Dependant on job enlisted for, and length of initial contract • Montgomery GI Bill • $49,248 total benefit • All Soldiers receive this benefit • Cash Bonus are limited by law, to a combined maximum of $40,000 • All Incentives are also dependant on ASVAB test score
Current Enlistment Incentives Reserves • Enlistment Bonus • Up to $20,000 • Dependant on test score and job enlisted for • Selected Reserve Montgomery GI Bill • $11,988 total benefit • All Soldiers receive this benefit • Selected Reserve Montgomery GI Bill +Kicker • $24,588 total benefit • Dependant upon job enlisted for and unit of assignment • Student Loan Repayment • Up to $50,000 • Dependant upon job enlisted for and unit of assignment
Current Enlistment Incentives • Both Active Duty and Reserve Soldiers receive tuition assistance • Maximum $4,500 per year • Up to $250 per credit hour • Post 9/11 GI Bill • Department of Veterans Affairs Program • 100% Tuition at highest State University • $1,000 per year for books • Housing Allowance • Complete 3 years of service for 100% benefits • May be transferred to spouse or children – Minimum 10 years service
Summary • Only 10 percent of the general population is eligible to serve in the Army • Due to the complexity of legal/moral backgrounds, contact a Recruiting Officer to determine eligibility • Through its enlistment standards, the Army promotes community standards • Stay in School • Anti-Drug • Respect for the Rule of Law • The Army is a Professional Organization that enlists only highly qualified individuals
