Learning Objects (LO) Philosophy vs Learning Activities (LA) Philosophy e-Learning as new strategy and new paradigm for learning: • A) in the Organizations (both public and private): • More availability of economic resources than human ones • then: focus on efficiency => commercial LMS plus LO • B) In the Universities (and post graduate Instruction): • More availability of human resources than economic ones • then: focus effectiveness => open source CMS plus LA

Learning Objects (LO) Philosophy vs Learning Activities (LA) Philosophy • E-Learning as addicted value: new borders ... • A) in the Organizations (both public and private): • on the side of context => connections with e-P e KM towards Info-learn • (we will see later >>>) • on the side of methodology => use of simulations and business games • (we will see later >>>) • B) in the Universities (and post graduate Instruction): • on the side of context => e-L is a facilitating instrument • for working together with companies on the same geographic area • on the side of methodology => application of andragogics theories (pedagogy for adults) and of socio-constructivist theories (with a sort of strong feedback on the face-to-face lessons)

In Italy e-learning was (and is) more applied in the private organizations (multinational and national companies, professional organizations and similar): Used in very different forms starting from the Eighties Deeply measured about efficiency, effectiveness and economic ROI … and then re-designed after continuous comparisons with other international operators till now, when we have a kind of set of good enough standard methodologies. NOTE: pay attention to post-graduate courses between education and training These experiences have been the point of reference for the public organizations (Public Administration, both local and national): European guidelines “Lisbona 2000” were published seven years ago Then the Italian government bilt a national network for the Public Administration (PA) … a central office (Cnipa) studied the best practices in the private organizations … and published in 2004 the guidelines for the correct use of the e-learning in PA NOTE: problems with the new law about telematic universities NOTA: problems with the new projects about lifelong learning initiatives Focus on e-L for private and public organizations in Italy
The actual ways we use e-L in Italian organizations • This is the table of methodologies used for different mix of: • target, • didactical objectives, • time to market, • budget E-LEARNING for Organizations E-simulation Business game on line Guided case historie Extended-e-learning standard solutions with high effectiveness and efficiency and with low costs and time to market Efficiency and Effectiveness Costs and time2mkt. Quick Wbt and Tutorial Low cost and time2mkt, low efficiency and effectiveness
Quick Wbt and tutorial Quick WBT and tutorial very simple product: a kind of slide show with low or no interaction and low or no multimedia solutions. The philosophy is quick and dirty: PRO: very poor budget, short time to market CONTRA: low efficiency and effectiveness E-LEARNING for Organizations E-simulation Business game on line Guided case historie Extended-e-learning standard solutions with high effectiveness and efficiency and with low costs and time to market Efficiency and Effectiveness Costs and time2mkt. Quick Wbt and Tutorial Low cost and time2mkt, low efficiency and effectiveness
Extended-e-learning EXTENDED-E-LEARNING The standard solution in Italy: the engineered process permit to have good efficiency and good effectiveness with low costs and low time to market. These LO are usually very rich in multimedia solutions and interactivity Let’s see the basic concepts >>> E-LEARNING for Organizations E-simulation Business game on line Guided case historie Extended-e-learning standard solutions with high effectiveness and efficiency and with low costs and time to market Efficiency and Effectiveness Costs and time2mkt. e-Simulation and Business game E-SIMULATION AND BUSINESS GAME This is the new frontier of the learning objects that use the maximum of interactivity, multimedia languages and involving the learner both on the rational and emotional point of view. With very high costs and time2mkt. But with a good good effectiveness. The new challenges Just a few words on the new challenges that we see now in Italy about the e-learning applied in the Organizations: in instruments: mobile and television learning - no more comments in methodologies: we saw the new proposals in the field of Simulations and Biz games; the most important component now seems to be the collaborative environments in context: connecting e-learning with knowledge management and info-learn >>> let’s see a synthetic table of this very interesting challenge

Conjugating LA and LO Philosophies for the IeLM Master I like to close my speech remembering that the LO Philosophy (typical of Organizations) can be conjugated with the LA Philosophy (typical of Universities) in the particular field of the post-graduate courses, as they are collocated exactly on the point of junction between the world of education and the one of work… In Rome, at the University Sapienza, on the 27th of September, we’ll see in deep the case history of IeLM, the Master in International e-Learning Management that we organized two years ago together with Nova Southeastern University of Miami, Florida, Usa. And we’ll see how well it is possible to study in the same time with learning object and learning activities with very good results for the students.
