  2. What is Stress? • Stress is your body’s way of responding to any kind of demand • Stress releases chemical in the blood that result in energy and strength • Great if there’s a lion in your living room • Not so great when you’re trying to enjoy a movie

  3. Types of Stress • Sensory Deprivation • Stress Overload • Anticipatory Stress • Residual Stress • Built-Up Stress • Negative Stress • External Stress Activity!!!

Recognizing Stress • Physical: sweaty, dry mouth, difficulty sleeping, fatigue • Emotional: fear, anxiety, depressed mood, social withdraw • Behavioral: interpersonal conflicts, lashing out, compulsive, short-tempered • Cognitive: lack of concentration, confusion, trouble with memory, monkey mind

  5. Managing Stress: Physical • Exercise • Eat well • Sleep schedule • Aroma therapy • Avoid Caffeine, Alcohol, Nicotine, Drugs • BREATHE, BREATHE, BREATHE

  6. ManagingStress: Emotional • Talk it out • Recognize and accept limitations • Journal • Allow yourself to laugh

  7. Managing Stress: Behavioral • Take a time out for yourself • Express yourself using “I” statements • Know who/what “fills your bucket” • Treat people with compassion

  8. Managing Stress: Cognitive • Take time out to plan • Make to-do lists • Meditate/Mindfulness • Restructure your thoughts • Affirmations
