  1. MEDELEC WG/ State of the art of measures to mitigate wind energy intermittency- Technical & contractual aspectsInformation on the WG activities and agenda AfefChallouf STEG MedelecAnnual meeting/AUE Seminar, Jordan, March 26-28, 2012

  2. MEDELEC WG: State of the art of measures to mitigate wind intermittency The idea of creating this WG was initiated during the last Annual Assembly of MEDELEC meeting. Objective of the Working Group: to review the technical and contractual measures taken by MEDELEC countries to mitigate wind intermittency.

  3. MEDELEC WG: State of the art of measures to mitigate wind intermittency The WG was created in November 2011. 10 companies and institutions are participating : NEPCO, ONE, REE, REN, RTE, SONELGAZ, TEAS and STEG, OME & Florence School of Regulation. The WG is still open to any other MEDELEC electricity companies’ participation

  4. MEDELEC WG: State of the art of measures to mitigate wind intermittency A first meeting was held in Tunis the 16th of November 2011. A seminar was held in Lisbon in January 2012, organized by REN, which topic was about technical issues related to wind integration

  5. MEDELEC WG: State of the art of measures to mitigate wind intermittency 3 working groups were constituted in order to tackle the subject with the following tasks:

  6. Main tasks of the working groups: Group 1: to summarize the countries policies and objectives regarding wind energy as well as the main data related to the subject. to perform a general description / country regarding the main difficulties related to wind integration & the measures taken to mitigate these difficulties.

  7. Questionnaire 1 (extract)

  8. Main tasks of the working groups: Group 2: piloted by REN (M. Filipe Ribeiro), will investigate the main measures taken regarding offer and demand balancing, reserves and wind energy prediction tools.

  9. Questionnaire 2 (extract)

  10. Main tasks of the working groups: Group 3, piloted by ONE (M. BrahimOumounah) will summarize the criteria related to wind power producers’ connection to the network.

  11. Questionnaire 3 (extract)

  12. Main tasks of the working groups: the present work would comprehend information about cost of the main measures taken to mitigate wind intermittency. It will also sum up the main studies performed in this field by the countries involved.

  13. The questionnaires were addressed to MEDELEC companies about these items in the beginning of March 2012 The utilities were asked to send their answers within the beginning of May 2012.

  14. Delivrables: December 2012: final report issuance March 2013: Presentation of the results in a workshop to be organized within the next Annual Assembly of MEDELEC

  15. Main tasks of the working groups: Considering the great number of studies which already dealt about the subject, the challenge for the present work will be to provide an added value for our companies.

  16. Conclusion Assessing the success stories and also the failures related to wind integration, we believe the present work can help us meet our challenges. It can also contribute to feasible and cost effective targets.

  17. Thankyou for your attention
