Who is he? • Francisco Pizarro was born in Trujillo, Spain 1471. • Without the promise of inheritance from his family, he set out to find fortune and adventure. • He became a conquistador and went on expeditions, until he heard of Cortes’ conquering of the Aztecs, and became convinced there was another rich empire somewhere else. His voyage • After getting funding from King Charles I, he explored the coast of South America, hoping to find another rich empire. • He found the Inca empire in Peru, and captured the ruler, after getting the demanded ransom, about 24 tons of gold and silver , killed him. Pizarro’s route
His impact • Francisco Pizarro settled Panama City, conquered the Inca Empire in 1533, and explored the west coast of South America • After capturing the empire, he tried to keep it for just himself and his brothers, but he was assassinated in 1541 by followers of two men he executed. Conquistador
Aftermath • The Inca people were enslaved, and after the death of Francisco Pizarro, there was conflict among the conquistadors there for years until Spanish viceroy Andres Hurtado de Mendoza restored peace. Andres Hurtado de Mendoza
