  18. Network architecture for the Telephony Server application • The main building blocks are the Telephony Server (TeS) and the Media Gateway (MGW), which communicate using the H.248 control protocol. • The TeS handles call logic and controls the switching resources that are implemented in the MGW via the standardized H.248 protocol. • The MGW performs the real switching and media inter working functions between the TDM domain and the connectivity network. • The call is set up using standardized IP- or ATM- signaling interfaces.

  23. ENGINE Integral offers more than 99,999% availability and all PSTN/ISDN services ENGINE Integral can be used as an efficient gateway solution between networks MGW/TAG functionality combined with Ericsson’s access solutions gives high level of flexibility MGW /TAG Values with ENGINE Integral

  24. ENGINE Integral supports Transit (both National and International and local applications! • Interworking with existing VoIP networks (H323/SIP) and Interconnects with Legacy Telephony networks (PSTN/ISDN) and ToIP networks.

  25. Opportunities or Situations Modernization • Replace out-dated equipment like analogue equipment or old hardware no longer supported in specific parts of the network Optimization/Consolidation • Reduction of nodes & buildings, optimization of transmission, O&M etc. in specific parts of the network. Hot spot relief • Cater for traffic growth in isolated areas due to interconnect, regulator demands, new services etc. Expansion • Overlay network to cater for traffic increase in major parts of the network due to interconnect, regulator demands, new services etc. Multi-service requirements • Possibility to establish a combined datacom and voice network from day one, including roadmap to IP. This is mostly relevant for greenfield operators.

  29. Engine Integral NetworkCharacteristics

  30. Characteristics • The Multi-Service Gateway is built on a platform scalable from 10, 20, 40 Gbit/s standard configurations. The processor power is also scalable, which means that one subrack (equal to a 10 G MSG) can be equipped with one up to four processor pairs. • A large Telephony server has capability for handling of up to 550 basic calls per second.

  32. Engine Integral NetworkControl Protocols and Interfaces

  33. Protocols and Interfaces • Telephony services are secured by one or several Telephony Servers, which control all legacy PSTN and ISDN services as they are carried through the backbone network. • Communications between Telephony Server uses standard protocols such as SIP-T or BICC-CS2, ensuring compatibility in a multi-vendor environment. • At the edge of the network Media Gateways use various interfaces, including TDM interfaces for Circuit Emulation in the network, IP/MPLS and ATM/FR, to connect access devices to the multi-service core network. Communication TeS – MGW is based on H.248. • EIN supports ISUP, DSS1, and V5.2 and signalling to Ericsson’s RSS and EAR; combined with IP and ATM. With a packet backbone it is easier and more cost efficient to introduce access nodes with ADSL and VoDSL

  34. Protocols and Interfaces • For bearer control within IP network IPBCP (tunnelled through H.248 and SIP-T/BICC). The bearer transport for voice is data/RTP/UDP/IP • For bearer control within ATM network UNI 4.0, PNNI 1.0 and AINI protocols are supported. • A wide range of IP interfaces, optical, electrical, and different transmission rates - from E1/DS1 up to STM1/OC3 - are supported by the interface boards. • A wide range of ATM interfaces, optical, electrical, and different transmission rates - from E1/DS1 up to STM16/OC48 - are supported by the interface boards.
