Who were the Victorians?. Victorians lived at the time Queen Victoria was on the throne. She became queen in 1837 and ruled Britain till 1901. Victoria was on the throne longer then any other British monarch. Victoria was so powerful she ruled a 1/5 of the world!!!.

Who were the Victorians? • Victorians lived at the time Queen Victoria was on the throne. She became queen in 1837 and ruled Britain till 1901. Victoria was on the throne longer then any other British monarch. Victoria was so powerful she ruled a 1/5 of the world!!!
Map of the British Empire 1870 • In Queen Victoria's life She conquered many countries Egypt in 1881, Canada in 1867, India a country she became empress in 1876. After her death Australia and New Zealand was conquered by Edward the 7th in 1907.
Life of the Poor • Life was hard for the poor in Victorian time. Children had a tough childhood and it would be common for them to go to work. They worked hard to earn money for their families because they lived in poverty they would be lucky to earn £10 a year.
Life in the Big House • Most of the rich people in Victorian time lived in the big house. The father was the head of the household. He went to work every day and the mother took care of the house. The children were brought up by the nanny.
The Growth of Towns • In 1801 a third of population in Britain lived in towns. By 1851 50% of the population had moved from rural areas to more built up places looking for work. Many new jobs were available in towns because of new mills and factories.
Victorian Travel • There was a lot of changes in Victorian travel. The steam engine made sea travel much faster. In 1835 Isambard kingdom Brunel planned a railway from London to Bristol. Its success
