Striplines • Critical Issues: • Low beam coupling impedance combined with adequate HV insulation between striplines and beam pipe; • Ultra-high flat-top reproducibility and stability (including droop) [1.5x10-4 & 1x10-4 , respectively] for a “long” pulse flattop duration of ≥ 160ns: • Concerns: switches, transmission cable, feedthroughs, stripline mechanical stability, terminator. • Status: • Striplines selected for kicker “magnet” (to achieve low • beam coupling impedance); • Double kicker system looks promising for improving effective reproducibility and stability of flattop (ATF achieved a factor of 3.3 reduction in kick jitter angle); • An “n-cell” inductive adder has been identified as a possible method for controlling pulse shape and achieving high reliability (redundancy of switches) [may also be promising for CR extraction kickers]. 2010 Milestones: • Examine required tapering of striplines to achieve low beam coupling impedance (Elias Metral/Hugo Day (PhD student)/Mike Barnes); • Examine possibilities of improved beam optics, e.g. better reduction of kick jitter angle from double kicker system (Jan Uythoven); • Define in more detail the kicker and septum parameters for extraction (and also injection?) taking into account the required apertures (Jan Uythoven); • Establish collaboration/contacts re inductive adder technology (pulse transformer, etc.) and commence a conceptual design (Mike Barnes); • PhD student to commence research into DR kickers on August 1st (Janne Holma) – to late for a significant contribution to CDR. • 2010 Deliverables: • Initial conclusions re tapering of striplines; • Recommendations re beam optics of DR transfer lines; • A more detailed parameters list (including apertures, • Bending angles etc. ) for DR and PDR kickers and septa; • Contribution to CDR !!
