  1. THE STRATEGY IS CLEAR – WHAT WE WANT • Secure an agreement on modernisation that addresses the needs of CWU members and the public/customers – not just the business.Win back pension entitlements.Linking it to modernisation agenda.Linking it to Government Review and ultimately making Government accept their responsibilities.E12 Annual Conference Policy. • Maintain Royal Mail as a wholly publicly owned and integrated business operating as an end to end provider – able to compete on a level playing field.

  2. HOW WE ACHIEVE THIS STRATEGY – THE TACTICS • All of us must accept the challenges are real. • We must position CWU on the right side of the modernisation debate. • We must expose Royal Mail’s position on modernisation. • We must keep the link between pensions, Royal Mail’s modernisation agenda, the Government Review and the direct lobbying of Government. • If we want to achieve our aims we must secure a new financial package for the company.

  3. Contd…. • We must galvanise the members behind CWU by telling them what we want – not just what we are against. • CWU Headquarters must adopt a fully integrated approach with consistent messages. • CWU Reps need to support us getting the message across. • We must correctly position the outcome of the Hooper Review. • We must intensify our campaign with Government. • Industrial action is a means to an end – not the objective.

  4. OUR IMMEDIATE PRIORITIES • Getting meaningful discussions/negotiations going with Royal Mail whilst dealing with their current plans for Mail Centres. • Getting the members up for a fight • Positioning the Hooper Review and getting involved in direct negotiations with Government.
