  7. Interstate 15 to Las Vegas—through the Mojave Desert

  8. However, northern California is NOT desert. Our San Joaquin Valley

  9. Can you see WHY our San Joaquin Valley is not a desert??

  10. Here’s why!

  11. Snowpack in the Sierra Nevada Mountains keeps our valley lush all year!

  12. California was home to a large number of Native American Indian tribes

  13. Early settlers to California believed it to be PARADISE!

  14. But…how will global warming affect our San Joaquin Valley?

  15. To begin with, our Sierra Nevada Mountains will receive RAIN instead of SNOW.

  16. Why is this a problem? Isn’t rain GOOD??

  17. Rain flows down the mountains IMMEDIATELY, into the Delta, and out into the Pacific Ocean.

  18. It’s much better to have gradual snowmelt. Then we can capture it in reservoirs and have a year-round water supply.

  19. As California grows, it’s increasingly difficult to supply enough water for its farms and people.

  20. So we drill more and more wells.

  21. As the water table falls, each year we must drill deeper and deeper.

  22. Before long, the wells go dry.

  23. Another consequence of global warming will be rising sea levels.

  24. Why will rising sea levels be a problem for us in Stockton?

  25. Hint: Do you know the elevation above sea levelof Stockton? Weber Point, Stockton

  26. Do you realize that parts of Stockton (e.g. Brookside) are already BELOW sea level?

  27. Now please read “The Race to Save Civilization.” What it describes is ALREADY HAPPENING here in California.
