Early Life • Mother: Martha Young Truman • Father: John Anderson Truman • 1890: He got diphtheria so he quit school and went to summer school. He learned so much in summer school he skipped third grade. He also moved to Independence, Missouri. • His favorite subject in high schoolwas history • He graduated in 1901 • Applied to the US military but he did not get in because of his poor eye site
