  3. World Wide Web (WWW) • A system that enable users to find and retrieve information by navigating through linked hypertext documents

  4. Newsgroup • It is a discussion group that allows people with common interests to communicate with each other. • Computers have to connect to newsgroup servers in order to download news.

  5. Electronic Mail • It can exchange E-mail on a network • It is a fast and convenient way to exchange ideas and request information • You can attach files in E-mail, forward to other readers …

  6. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) • To copy files (e.g. HTML files) from one computer to another on the internet • Download (From Server to Home PC) files • Upload (From Home PC to Server)

  7. Conversation over the Internet (Chat) - e.g.ICQ, internet phone • You can instantly communicate with people around the world by typing back and forth • When chatting, the text you typed immediately appears on the screen of each person involved in the conversations

  8. Host Computer Terminal Remote logon (Telnet) • You can logon a host computer remotely through the Internet, and the computer will act as a terminal for the computer host (e.g. UNIX systems). • You can do some operations or commands to remote control the host system. E.g. Run a program.
