  2. What is Child Pornography? Under federal law (18 U.S.C. §2256), child pornography is defined as any visual depiction including any: • Photograph • film • video • picture • or computer or computer-generated image or picture, whether made or produced by electronic, mechanical, or other means, of sexually explicit conduct

  3. Child Pornography Pt.2? Federal law (18 U.S.C. §1466A) also criminalizes knowingly producing, distributing, receiving, or possessing with intent to distribute, a visual depiction of any kind, including a drawing, cartoon, sculpture or painting, that • depicts a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct and is obscene • depicts an image that is, or appears to be, of a minor engaging in graphic bestiality, sadistic or masochistic abuse, or sexual intercourse

  4. What Is a “Minor”? For purposes of enforcing the federal law (18 U.S.C. §2256), “minor” is defined as a person under the age of 18.

  6. Combating Child Pornography on the Internet • A loving home • Teachers play a major role • Avoidance of pornographic magazines • Avoidance of pornographic Internet sites • Educators w/ Internet access must supervise children

The Statistics: • 25% of total search engine requests are porn-related • 12% of total websites are pornographic • 100,000 websites offer illegal child pornography • Child pornography generates $3 billion annually • 90% of 8-16 year olds have viewed porn online (most while doing homework) • Largest consumer of internet pornography 12-17 age group1
