  1. The Inverted Pyramid and Its Usage Inverted pyramid is a writing style used by journalists, (mostly those in print media) to prioritize the information that is given to the readers. Mostly used in writing stories in newspapers, this writing style is also quite popular with all sorts of writers such as bloggers and editorial page writers. It’s one of the first things that is taught to a trainee or budding journalists, and also in all courses in mass communication. The inverted pyramid gets its name from the way information is structured, with the most important aspects of the news in the top, its description or details in the middle, and the finishing touches and less relevant details in the end. This forms a seemingly inverted triangle or pyramid, after which this writing style is named. This style was created keeping in mind, that when reading newspapers, most people tend to scan them cursorily first, and lengthy articles are not fully read. Keeping all the relevant and important information at the top ensures that people at least get a clear idea about the news. The inverted pyramid is divided into 3 sections, as mentioned before, the first one containing the 5 w’s and 1 h, namely: Who, When, Why, Where, What and How. This is another writing style followed by journalist, to give all the key information in the first few sentences, also called the ‘lead’ or the lead paragraph. The inverted pyramid is a genius writing tool, and can be used in almost any form of descriptive writing. That’s what makes it so popular.
