  1. Lecture (6)

  2. PA Fingers Exposure Factors • Fingers Patient position • Seated at end of radiographic table • Apply lead shielding for Radiation safety • Part position • Forearm resting on table top • Palmar surface against cassette • Separate fingers slightly • Center Finger of interest to cassette center

  3. Central Ray Perpendicular • Center Point To proximal metacarpophalangeal joint • Structures shown Distal, Middle, and proximal phalanges

  4. Lateral Fingers Exposure Factors Patient position Seated at end of radiographic table Apply lead shielding for Radiation safety Part position Forearm resting on table top Rest ulnar surface on table Hand in true lateral position Extend and Center Finger of interest to Cassette center

  5. Central Ray Perpendicular • Center Point To proximal metacarpophalangeal joint • Structures shown Distal, Middle ,and proximal phalanges in lateral view

  6. Baic Projections • AP • PA oblique • Lateral • Thumb AP Thumb Exposure Factors • Patient position • Seated at end of radiographic table • Apply lead shielding for Radiation safety

  7. Part position • Forearm resting on table top • Align thumb to long axis of cassette • Internally rotate hand with fingers extended Until posterior surface of thumb is in contact with film • May need to hold fingers back with other hand Central Ray Perpendicular Center Point First metacarpophalangeal joint Structures shown Distal and proximal phalanges, first metacarpal, trapezium and associated joints

  8. Exposure Factors • PA Oblique Thumb Patient position Seated at end of radiographic table Apply lead shielding for Radiation safety Elbow flexed 90 degrees with hand resting on cassette Part position Abduct thumb slightly with palmar surface of hand In contact with cassette (This will place thumb int 45 degrees oblique position Align thumb to long axis of cassette

  9. Central Ray Perpendicular • Center Point First metacarpophalangeal joint • Structures shown Distal and proximal phalanges, first metacarpal, trapezium and associated joints in a45degrees oblique position

  10. Patient position Seated at end of radiographic table Apply lead shielding for Radiation safety Elbow flexed 90 degrees with hand resting on cassette Part position Start with hand pronated and thumb abducted, with Fingers and hand slightly arched then rotate hand Medially slightly until thumb is in a true lateral Align long axis of thumb to long axis of cassette Central Ray Perpendicular • Lateral Thumb Center Point First metacarpophalangeal joint Structures shown Distal and proximal phalanges, first metacarpal, trapezium and associated joints in alateral position

  11. PA • OBLIQES • LATERAL • CARPAL TUNNEL Basic Projections • Wrist Joint PA WRIST JOINT Exposure Factors
