The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. 4TH Amendment

Search Warrant – a judge’s order authorizing a search. • Probable Cause – reasonable cause for issuing a search warrant or making an arrest. • How does this apply to schools? • New Jersey v. What specific clause of the 5th amendment are we looking at? • Miranda v. Arizona (1966) – police are required to clearly notify a suspect of their rights including being silent (self-incrimination) and a right to an attorney. • Gideon v. Wainwright (1963) – right to an attorney at trial. • Escobedo v. Illinois (1964) – right to an attorney during police interrogations. 5TH Amendment
