Speaking task: Group discussion NOTE – while you have two minutes “preparation” time during the discussion, you cannot write anything during this time. You should allow two minutes during your preparation time to read the discussion topic and note down some ideas for discussion. Discussion topic has three key elements: 1.Background information outlines a scenario/ establishes your ‘role’. 2. Focus of the discussion – this involves making suggestions, choosing an option, giving reasons for choices 3. Mechanics – may require suggestions about ‘how’ to do something. Eg raise money, make a brochure. Ongoing reading of things such as the SCMP will help develop your general knowledge ad understanding of these things. The mechanics – Some of the tasks mentioned in previous papers have been How to present information – eg Competition for a proposal for a TV commercial – How to present information to make it interesting and attractive Design a website to promote an event Designing an attractive and useful booklet for information Design a multimedia presentation Design a poster, leaflet/ pamphlet Write an article for a magazine How to write an effective and interesting letter Campaigns, Meaningful Events and activities to raise funds and / or educate about a topic : Campaign / Activities and events for a special week – eg healthy eating, Chinese culture, conservation, use of mobile phones, reading, English speaking How to promote the campaign , Where to promote / advertise events Activities to raise awareness of an issue eg traffic accidents, Effective ways to share concerns about issues
Planning something: Planning a trip Planning a production / school event / drama – venues acts/ activities Most effective ways to present information during a talk Planning a display Collecting data for a report/ project How to collect views/opinions Practical ways to run a workshop Marketing and promoting a company In your group brainstorm / develop a mindmap of some things you might need to consider in planning one of : Fundraising Design a pamphlet Planning a school event – drama, speech night A website An exhibition for a special week Campaign in school (eg safety) Class presentation Setting up a new business How to make a talk interesting
