Write down the answers to the ones you did not do • In your groups, designate questions for books VIII (8) and IX (9) ---skip VII (7)

  4. What are some themes in the Odyssey? • The power of cunning/wit versus physical strength • Temptation can cause downfalls • The gods are the most powerful over all • Loyalty is important

  5. Motif • A recurring subject, theme, or idea in a work of art, literature, music, etc.

  6. What are some motifs in the Odyssey? • Storytelling • Disguises • Divine intervention (deus ex machina) • Identity and concealment • Importance of females • Hospitality • Faithfulness • Suffering • Loneliness • Death and rebirth (physically, mentally, or emotionally)
