What are the injuries? Four hand injuries (3 cuts, one smashed fingers One hernia (lost workday)
What did they have in common? • All were wearing gloves – were they the right ones for the job? • Two had their hands in the direct line of fire • Three were tool related – hammer, drill, chisel • One was retrieving materials from a laydown area
What can we do? • Help contractors to understand the issue • Ask our contractors to closely evaluate glove selection • Watch for people placing their hands “in the bite” • Look at better methods for material storage
