The cost will be $11.50 per child. We will need chaperones to meet us there. $8 for chaperones. More details to come once the trip has been approved. Math I-Ready walking trip to Simply Donuts for those who made a 100 for passing required lessons in I-Ready:: Hunt HR - April 1st Waldrop HR - April 2nd Grant HR - April 3rd Students will need to bring $5 or so to attend. ELA Sc/SS Math 6th grade ELA’s daily homework will be AR and IREADY. I recommend 20 minutes of reading a night. AR will be for a grade. This week in Reading we are focusing on Analyzing the Structure of Stories (RL.6.5) Iready workbook lesson 16. We fill read several passage and determine how they are organized and what the how different parts of the story contribute to the over text. Students will begin to review language and reading objectives. In our novel Freak the Mighty, we will read aloud chapters 8-10 and complete entries in our writing journals to check for comprehension. vocab words - none Statistics math test will be Wednesday, 3/27 Google classroom has videos. Study the packet: vocabulary, questions/answers. Students need to know what to do when asked for mean, median, mode, range. Study these. The next units starting Thursday; algebra and geometry. Students will be working in 2 packets at a time. One will be algebra, the other geometry. This material will move rapidly due to the end of year test coming up quickly. Students MUST STUDY DAILY as I teach material. Videos will be available. Science: This week, we are participating in OSUE’s Health Week. Mon - Social/Emotional Day Tues - Get on Track Day (Eating Healthier) Wed - Water Day (Drinking More Water) Thurs - Throw It Away Day (Saying No To Tobacco) Fri - Be Active Day Social Studies: We will continue work on our Africa Travel Brochures.. I recommend 20 minutes of reading a night. AR will be for a grade. This week in Reading we are focusing on Text Structure (RL.6.5) Iready workbook lesson 11. Reading I-Ready pizza party Friday March 22nd for those who made their goals. 4th Quarter I-Ready celebration: Those who complete all required Reading AND Math will be taking a walking field trip to New York Pizza. According to OSSD Board of Trustees Policy JCDAA - Use of Tobacco and Smoking Devices, The Board recognizes the dangers and concurs with the Surgeon General’s Report on the Tharmful effects of tobacco on the human body. Any student who shall possess (either actual or constructive), use, carry, or sells any form of tobacco product or tobacco paraphernalia while in school, on campus, on school grounds, upon school buses, on the road to and from school or during participation in or attendance at or travel to and from school-sponsored events, activities, events and ceremonies shall be subject to the following disciplinary action: For a first offense, the student shall receive three (3) days ISI-In School Suspension or one (1) day OSS – Out of School Suspension. For a second offense, the student shall receive three (3) days OSS – Out of School Suspension. For a third offense, the student shall receive five (5) days to ten (10) days OSS – Out of School Suspension and may be recommended for expulsion. All pupils shall be held accountable for any other form of tobacco which may be located in any vehicle, book bag, locker or any other personal property of the pupil and for which the pupil is aware of or should have been aware of.

Unfortunately, there are many students who still don’t know these due to their own negligence in not practicing them. After Christmas break we will start division with the 2’s. 2/2=1, 4/2=2, 6/2=3, etc. Science: We are wrapping up Body Sytems. Social Studies: Europe projects are being presented to wrap up this unit. All students will be required to PASS 15 lessons per quarter in both Math and Reading. Time given during Power Hour. Math will give 2 minor grades. (# out of 15 lessons passed for a minor grade and time on task for a minor grade.) MAAP Scores will be in Tuesday Folder!! WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK? MATH ELA SCIENCE/SS 6th grade ELA’s daily homework will bet AR. I recommend 20 minutes of reading a night. AR will be for a grade. Students have been given their AR Levels and pts requirements. This week in Language we will complete a quiz on parts of speech and sentence types. They have notes in their composition notebook. We will also have a quiz on vocabulary Friday, August 24th. This week in Reading we will continue to work on finding the Central Idea of the passage. Lesson 1 IREADY workbooks. There are videos on there for each covered lesson going over the same problems we did together in class.If any part of your child’s packet is not complete, it means they were absent or didn’t take the notes from the board. If we skipped a problem, students write skipped. Students are not pulled out of class for anything except for discipline by admin when necessary. _________________ See note on the left about I-Ready. Science: Our topic this week is the microscope and proper usage to begin Life Science. We will have a lab to view slides. Social Studies: We will be wrapping up our Geography Unit. Students are getting accustomed to our expectations and settling in nicely. Please talk to your child daily about his/her school day. If there are any concerns, we as a team are here to assist in any way we can. We have been working to get our parent email list together in order to communicate effectively. This is the last paper copy of the newsletter we will send. We have also sent (Tuesday) an electronic copy in an email. PLEASE check to see that you got the email. If not, it means there is a problem with the email address we have. If you do not have or use an email address, please send a note to the homeroom teacher so we can find another way to communicate. The exception will be if we did not get enough of a lesson completed to do homework. All homework should be written in the agenda daily. If there happens to be no homework, I will ENCOURAGE students to write No Homework. Writing in the agenda is student responsibility. We will send this newsletter each Tuesday attached to an email to parents and posted in Google Classroom for students to access. This week will be the only printed newsletter sent out. If you do not have access to a device or have an email address to receive this, you will need to notify us immediately to receive a printed copy. We look forward to an incredible year!! Notes 6th grade uses Engage New York (ENY) curriculum for math. This is given to students in packet form, and students must bring these to school daily and keep for test review. * Daily hmwk posted for all students to write in agenda. * Bi-weekly Fri multiplication/division fact quizzes w/5 sec. time limit per fact. *1st fact mult. quiz will be Aug. 17th on 2s and 3s - 5 seconds is very fast.
