4. Story Prompts: There is an expression in our country, “Home is Where the Heart Is”. Although we all have different houses and live in different places, there will be some things that we will all share. The value and importance of having a home is something we expect everyone will feel although the habits and customs in that home may be quite different. We are interested in learning about the homes in different parts of the world and the feelings people our own age have about their homes. 5. Canada • Homes Where I’m from there happen to be many decent types of houses. Most houses are made out of wood. Every house is designed by his or her owner. Not everyone’s house is the same. Each house is unique in its own way. Homes in New Brunswick can be all different sorts of colors, or they can even have brick or stone on them. They are clearly important to us considering it’s up to us how we design our house and our home in everyday life. 90% of my life has been spent at my house. My home means a lot to me. I’d have to say everyone where I come from feels safe at home and is glad to live in such a nice town. Most houses have heating such as a furnace, or a fireplace built in to keep them warm during the winter. Each house has at least one bathroom and up to 5 to 20 rooms or more. Homes usually have dining rooms, living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and/or play rooms. My house for example is a green color made out of wood with two bathrooms and 13 rooms. In our homes we use all different sorts of utensils to cook and prepare our meals. In my home we use our stove, oven, microwave, pots, and other utensils with which we eat our food. As you can see, our homes seem to have half the things we do in everyday life in them. They mean a lot to us, my home means a lot to me. Alyssa .

6. Canada • “A home” to me means somewhere you can be yourself. A home is where your family is, it’s somewhere you can be loved. My home is a place where friends and family stay and my home has shelter, warmth and food. There is a saying, “Home is where the heart is”. This saying is especially true for me. In my home I live, laugh, and love without being judged or judging others. My home has unconditional love, where no matter what you do or who you are they’ll love you no matter what, you can make mistakes and never loose that love. A home without love isn’t a home at all. A home should be a place where you can truly live. You can play games, dance, read, draw, play on the computer, swim, imagine, daydream and rest. Last but not least, a home should be filled with laughter. We need to be happy and content with our lives and families. We need to play games and make many happy memories. Laughter is powerful medicine that will keep us young and healthy. Wherever there is happiness in a home, you will find a large amount of laughter. This is what I hold dear and what I believe to be a “home”. Symone

7. Canada • Homes Here in Canada our homes are very important to us. We may all have different houses, but the meaning of home means the same thing to most of us. (We do not live in igloos like some might think.) Our homes are a place for us to live. It’s where we spend a lot of our time so it’s important to us. Also it gives us shelter. If we could change one thing about our homes I don’t know what most people would change, but I would change it by making my house a little bigger, that way my room would be bigger. Even though I would like my house to be bigger, the houses here in Canada aren’t really small; the average number of rooms in a house in our class is 16, with the average of 4 or 5 people living in them. In our homes to cook our meals we use toaster ovens, ovens, toasters, pots, pans, microwaves, forks, knives and spoons, like many other places. So these are some things about our homes in Canada.
