Musicals At the beginning of every musical, you will hear an overture. Overture: Introduction to a musical/opera, played by the orchestra/band. Often features melodies from the main songs in the show. Settles the audience before the show starts.
Musicals Musicals feature a mix of: Solo: One person singing alone. Duet: Two people singing. Chorus: Large group of singers
Musicals The singers are either: Soprano: High singing female. Alto: Low singing female. Tenor: High singing male. Bass: Low singing male.
Musicals Texture In music, there are two main types of texture. Musical theatre often displays both of these. Homophonic: One melody. All singers will sing at the same time. Polyphonic: At least two independent melodies interweaving with each other. Often used for dramatic effect in theatre – two people having an argument or many characters expressing their feelings at the same time.
