Agenda • Assessment of the ‘Voice Thrust’ • Analysis of the dimensions of ‘the voice thrust’ • Improved information flow • Improving capacity of network members • Effective positioning of FANRPAN • Involvement in CAADP • Possible leaders and sources of support for ‘the voice thrust’ • Suggestions for strengthening FANRPAN

  3. Assessment of the ‘Voice’ Thrust • Execution of the three dimensions will achieve ‘the Voice thrust’ • The ‘Voice’ thrust will make a positive change to FANRPAN • Organisation (Corporate brand) • Outputs (Research Reports and Recommendations) • People (Secretariat and nodes)

Analysis of the dimensions Improved Information flows • All identified tasks are vital, and there is need to guarantee ‘cross – sharing’ of information between and amongst nodes • Vast information at regional/nodal level is not being shared • Need to define communications tasks for regional and nodal staff, and establish minimum expectations for reporting

Assessment of the ‘Voice’ Thrust Improving capacity of network members • All identified tasks are vital, and there is need to ensure methods for best practice transfer between/amongst nodes • Improved funding and resources to the nodes • Capacitation of node personnel in areas of documentation and information dissemination • Establishment of partnerships and information dissemination fora

  6. Assessment of the ‘Voice’ Thrust Effective positioning of FANRPAN • Focus on SADC and COMESA vital, but need to improve image in the eyes of a broader spectrum of stakeholders • Position FANRPAN as ‘preferred’ policy research institution

Assessment of the ‘Voice’ Thrust Effective positioning of FANRPAN • Improving relations with SADC/COMESA • Public Relations strategy to be implemented using eminent persons at FANRPAN’s disposal • Establish joint research projects with SADC and COMESA FANR directorates • Integration of targeted SADC/COMESA personnel to FANRPAN board of governors • Integration of related programmes • Collaboration with other regional bodies working on FANR

  8. Involvement in CAADP • FANRPAN must assume a central role • Present region-wide research proposal to enhance CAADP implementation • Public Relations and lobbying with eminent persons (Need to establish database of critical/eminent people in/outside FANRPAN)

  9. Suggestions for strengthening FANRPAN • Need to establish database of critical/eminent people in/outside FANRPAN • Critical self assessment • Where does FANRPAN draw its legitimacy? • On whose behalf does FANRPAN speak? (CONSTITUENCY) • To whom does FANRPAN speak? (TARGET AUDIENCE)
