Daily Routine • 1. There will be some kind of graded work everyday. • 2. Three-ring binder or folder to be used for math only • 3. All supplies needed for that days lesson. Calculators are available for you to borrow to complete your assignment. • 4. I treat you with respect. Please treat me the same. • 5. Respect your fellow classmates • 6. Do your own work • 7. Be on time, in your seat and ready to learn when the bell rings • 8. Keep your hands and feet to your self • 9. The chairs have four legs – PLEASE, USE THEM
Get More Math • This is a math practice program for concept mastery and retention. • We will be using this program exclusively in class this year
Why Get More Math? • It provides more opportunities to review concepts. • The program will individualize instruction to the needs of each student. • It is tailored to the current needs of each student in regards to previously taught material. • It provides data to help with ensuring progress.
How does it work? • 1. Each students has their own individual account. • 2. Each day their will be an assignment posted for them to work on. On the board there will be a number of correct problems that must be completed. • 3. All assignments should be able to be completed in class, if the student is using their time wisely. • 4. Work not completed in class can be completed in assisted study or at home. Assignments cannot be worked on after midnight of the day they were assigned.
Assignments • 1. You will have some kind of assignment every day. Assignments should not take you more than 30 minutes. • 2. Any work assigned in class must be completed: it is part of your grade. • 3. Failure to complete work will result in you receiving the grade you earned for that assignment. For instance, if the assignment stated you need to get 16 correct and you only completed 12, your grade would be 12 out of 20 or a 60%. • 4. Repeated failure to complete assignments will result in: a. Phone call to parents • b. Possible early arrival or stay late to complete work • c. Failing grade for the marking period
Grading • 1. Everything you do will receive a grade • 2. Your report card grade is dependent upon: • a) Homework; • b) Quizzes; • c) Unit Exams • d) Mixed Review
Grading (Cont.) • 3. Quizzes and Tests will be administered in Get More Math. You must receive a grade of 70% or better on a quiz or test to move on to the next skill. A grade under 70% will result in reviewing the topic and retaking the quiz • 4. An incomplete grade will be used only in the event of prolonged illness near the end of the marking period. It will not be used to allow you to catch up on missing work.
Grade Calculations • 1. Your marking period grade is calculated as follows: • Homework 10% • Mixed Reviews 20% • Quizzes 30% • Unit Exams40% • 2. Grades are entered into SIS every Friday. You can check your grade anytime you like.
Computer Usage • 1. We will use the computer daily. Please bring it with you each day. Also have your charger if your computer is not charged. • 2. You may also use your computer or phone to listen to music while you are working on assignments.
Phone Usage • 1. Phones may be used to listen to music while completing assignments. • 2. Should phones become a distraction while working, the student will be asked to put it away. • 3. Should the phone continue to be a distraction, I will remove the phone till the end of the period. • 4. If the phone continues to be a distraction, I will be giving your parents a call and possibly turning it into the office.
Weekly Grade Update • 1. Each week you will receive an update of your grade. You will be able to see your overall grade, as well as the grades you are receiving in each area. If you are missing assignments, you should use this as your reminder to get your assignments in to me. • 2. If you are not receiving a passing grade or have many assignments missing an email will be sent to your parents. • 3. Check your weekly grade sheet against the grades your received on your graded assignments. I try very hard, but sometimes mistakes are made. You want to receive all the points you earned.
Pencils • 1. Pencils will be available in the classroom should you forget yours. If you need a pencil make sure you get it before we start class.
Notebooks • You are required to keep a notebook or a folder in this class. • You should keep all your class notes in this folder/notebook. As the year goes on you may need to consult your notes about the procedures used to solve problems.
Grading System • You can access SIS through the Penns Valley website. Your parents can access it through the parental portal, you can access it through the student portal. I encourage you to do this frequently so that you are aware of your grades and missing assignments.
Extra Help • 1. I am available every morning from 7:00 to school starts. • 2. I am available on a limited basis after school. You need to make arrangements with me 2 days in advance it you need me to stay after school. • 3. We can arrange a tutor through the National Honor Society if you feel you need one.
When You Are Absent • 1. If you know you are going to be absent (trip, hunting, sporting event ) it is your responsibility to let Ms Rager know so that we can discuss work that will be missed and assignments that will be due. Since we will be using Get More Math this year, you can complete your assignments from home on your computer, or we can discuss printed copies. • 2. If you are ill. Your assignment for the day and all other handout given will be found hanging on the bulletin board in the missing work section. You are responsible for completing these assignments. • 3. THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!!
